    • From Find a Grave (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/71896597): Source: the records of Wilma (Frank) Rogers: "On Feb. 17, 1847 he married Christina Long. Thomas owned a Tannery at Campbell Station, Knox CO. TN. This was a very prosperous business until the war between the states. During the Battle of TN his Tannery was destroyed. Both the Confederate and the Union Armies over ran the area and the family was left destitute as both their food and clothing were taken by the armies. Christina, wife of Thomas, had helped in the care of the wounded. Because of her kindness to a Northern Officer, who had been found by one of the sons, by the spring, which supplied the family with water, this officer offered to give them transportation to IL on one of the Union supply trains. They came north to the farm home and settled near Fidelity.

In Feb. 1864, they, Christina, Thomas, and family came north to the farm home of Nathaniel L. Roady, near Fidelity, IL in Jersey Co. and lived near there until Thomas died, Oct. 13, 1869. During his years in IL he practiced his profession as shoemaker but was never well due to the privations of war. Christina was left with a family of nine children ranging in ages from 22 years to the baby who was 3 years old."
